Meta AI, the generative AI assistant integrated into WhatsApp, is set to receive significant upgrades. A new feature discovered in the WhatsApp beta for Android (v2.24.14.20) suggests that Meta AI will soon be able to reply to and edit photos shared by users.
This upcoming feature will enable Meta AI to analyze photos, identify objects within them, and provide contextual information. WhatsApp is also testing a new button that allows users to manually share photos with the AI chatbot for editing based on text prompts. User privacy is prioritized, with the ability to delete uploaded photos.
While still under development, this feature could revolutionize how users interact with images on WhatsApp. It builds upon Meta AI’s existing capabilities, introduced last September, which include generating new images from text prompts and topics (“Imagine with Meta”) and reimagining images shared by friends (“Reimagine”).
Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly working on another feature that will enable users to create their own images with the help of Meta AI, potentially by combining a set of photos.
Meta’s continued investment in AI, particularly in leveraging the vast amount of photo and video data from Facebook and Instagram, underscores the company’s commitment to shaping the future of AI-powered communication and image manipulation.
